Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use Policy
Mentis Journal of Educational Research
Mentis Journal of Educational Research is committed to the principles of academic integrity, transparency, and ethical publishing. In line with international scholarly standards, the journal adopts the following policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI tools (e.g., systems that generate text, images, or data).
1. General Principles
AI tools may be used as supportive instruments in the research and writing process; however, they cannot be recognized as authors. As AI systems cannot assume intellectual responsibility, accountability, or ethical obligations, they do not meet the criteria for authorship.
2. Author Responsibility
Authors bear full responsibility for all content in their manuscripts (including text, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions). The use of AI tools does not diminish this responsibility. Accordingly:
- Authors must carefully verify the accuracy, originality, and appropriateness of any AI-assisted content.
- Any errors, biases, or misleading outputs remain the responsibility of the authors.
- Authors are fully accountable for issues such as plagiarism, improper citation, or other ethical violations.
3. Transparency and Disclosure
Authors must clearly and transparently disclose any use of AI tools at any stage of the research or writing process (e.g., literature review, text generation, language editing, data analysis).
This disclosure should be provided in a dedicated section (e.g., “Ethics Statement” or “Acknowledgments”) and should include:
- The name of the AI tool used
- The purpose of its use (e.g., language editing, drafting)
- The extent of its use
4. Acceptable Uses
The following uses are considered acceptable:
- Grammar and spelling corrections
- Improvements to clarity and readability
- Limited technical assistance or suggestions
Such uses should not constitute the core intellectual contribution of the work.
5. Unacceptable Uses
The following practices are considered unethical:
- Submitting AI-generated content without meaningful author contribution
- Listing AI tools as authors
- प्रस्तुतing unverified or non-traceable AI outputs as scientific evidence
- Uploading or sharing confidential manuscript content with AI tools during the peer review process
6. Guidelines for Reviewers and Editors
- Reviewers must not upload, share, or otherwise expose any part of a manuscript under review to AI tools.
- Editors are likewise bound by strict confidentiality obligations.
- AI tools may be used in the editorial process only for limited technical purposes (e.g., language checks), provided confidentiality is fully maintained.
7. Policy Violations
In cases of violation of this policy, the journal reserves the right to reject the manuscript, retract a published article, and take appropriate ethical actions in accordance with publishing standards.
